Bills and Miami Tussle
(Video owned by Highlight Heaven)
Wildcard Weekend is always full of emotion and we saw that with all the games from this past weekend. If there is one team in the NFL that is emotional, it is the Buffalo Bills and it starts with their quarterback Josh Allen. Allen is someone that every game you will see all the emotions that one person can have during a game; anger, sadness, frustration, joy, etc.. which as fans we love to see. Emotions were high this weekend with the Bills playing the Miami Dolphins, especially late in the second quarter. Josh threw a pick to Xavien Howard of the Dolphins, which was returned for around 30 yards. When this ball was picked off, you can see Christian Wilkins (Miami D-End) blocking Allen in the hopes of a pick six. During this altercation between Wilkins and Allen, Wilkins gives Allen at the end a little love tap just to show whose boss; or so it seemed. Once Bills center, Mitch Morse saw this altercation it was a free for all. Morse and Spencer Brown (offensive tackle) got into Wilkins face and drove him into the ground, while four other offensive players all ganged up on Wilkins for even touching Josh Allen. Which led to a huge tussle between the Dolphins and the Bills and led to both teams receiving personal fouls for the tussle.
Let's start from the beginning, Josh Allen started this whole thing and I am not going to argue that at all. The way he was blocking Christian Wilkins was just over the top and his emotions got the best of him. But the thing that I loved to see out of this whole thing was the fact that his offensive line came to back him up and say, "hey we got this". As a past offensive lineman and coach, this is offensive line commandment number one "no one touches the quarterback". This was on display on Saturday against the Dolphins, Mitch Morse showed the NFL that this is his job to protect the QB. What killed me during the fight was the way that Josh just walked away from the whole thing. When your boys go to bat for you, you need to be there to at least break it up or settle the bulls down. He started the fight, which for an offensive lineman doesn't matter we are going to finish the fight no matter who started it. This is especially true when it comes to the quarterback. In my personal opinion, I wish Josh Allen approached the end of the fight a little bit better. I have constantly told people that Baker Mayfield is someone that will start a fight and just wait for his boys to finish the fight and talk shit the whole time afterwards. Am I comparing Josh Allen to Baker, it seems like that but on two different spectrums.
What I am talking about is the accountability for the quarterbacks actions and if he is going to standup and let people know that he started that fight. Many football fans will see this as an offensive line protecting their quarterback, which it is but this could have happened any other way. I guess what I am trying to say is this, I am proud of the o line standing up and defending their quarterback. What I am upset about is the way that Josh just walked away from the whole thing. Is this going to change my view on Josh, no. What it is going to show me is that I love the Bills offensive line and I want to see more shit like that in the future.
