Miami Vices: Can't We All Just Get Along?

Nothing better than a little inner squad squabble! And that's exactly what went down last night between Jimmy Butler and head coach Erik Spolestra in the midst of a 118-104 loss to the Golden State Warriors, their second straight. It's not apparent what led to the altercation or what exactly was said but at one point "old head" Udonis Haslem can be seen getting in Jimmy Butler's face and repeatedly letting him know he will f him up. Jimmy has youth on his side but Haslem seems like a guy you don't mess with and definitely the type of fighter who fights dirty aka the Costanza move. Here's a snippet of the quarrel:

All-time clipboard throw by Spolestra. Initial instinct tells me that Butler was probably at fault here. You can't look at Spolestra and think this guy is a textbook shit starter. He looks more like a guy at Barnes N Noble who complains to the guy behind him in line that his gift card is expired but accepts his fate and exits. Not to mention he's got to be at least 7 inches shorter than Butler and human nature tells you that frankly you don't start a fight with a guy that much bigger than you.

In terms of the altercation, this is textbook NBA right here. You got a bunch of guys holding each other back and pretending to walk forward but nobody ever does anything. After the game they probably shake up and go ay bro that's my bad I got caught up in the heat of the moment and then it's squashed. Skip Bayless I'm sure thinks this will be the downfall of the Miami Heat and it's this massive deal. It's not. Dudes being bros, let's have a dust up and call it even afterwards. Point blank that's all this is.

The Heat are currently 47-26, clinched their division, and are the #1 seed in the East. Really this is the kind of thing that can happen on a team that is doing everything they can to reach that next level i.e. win a championship. I love it personally. Show me some fire, show me that you care about getting your ass handed to you. That's what ultimately brings a team closer together and may just be the push that brings the Heat from a comfortable 1 seed to a hungry, dog mentality that you need entering the playoffs. Jimmy Butler is the ultimate competitor and these things will come up every now and then. At the end of the day he is going to give you everything he's got and exactly who you want on your side in a scrap. Same with Udonis Haslem.

Don't let the media fool you, all is more than well in South Beach.
