Absolutely incredible theatre last night at Wrigley Field. In order to truly understand the background and intensity of this matchup, you have to click the video above and watch. But to put it simply, Amir Garrett and Javy Baez do NOT like each other at all. I don't think I've ever seen two guys talk shit to each other before the at-bat even began and with the game on the line it made watching all the more entertaining. Like I've stated on the podcast, I hate Amir Garrett with a passion. He is a big dude so I'm not going to say he's a fake tough guy but he's just the definition of doing too much. He wears a 6.75 ERA and acts like he's the greatest pitcher in baseball when he finally strikes you out. That's my issue. If you're actually good, then by all means show boat and do what you feel is necessary. But if you only can get a guy out 1 day out of the week, then that's where I draw the line. Okay so back to the at-bat. It was awesome. Javy was giving Amir the business as he stepped up to the plate with the score tied in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, and 1 out. The very first pitch Garrett throws an outside off-speed pitch and Javy crushes it into deep center field, game over. Cubs win 6-5. But here's where it gets REALLY good....
Instead of trotting to first base, Javy starts yelling at Garrett as he literally walks down the line telling him to "get the fuck off the field". His teammates are trying to celebrate a walk off win and Javy is half way down the line, literally walking, and talking shit to Garrett the entire way. I'm shocked Amir Garrett just took it on the chin and didn't go after him. This is the same guy who tried to fight the entire Pittsburgh Pirates team on one outing (click video below). The dude's nuts. But no, he just sauntered off the field and complained to the umpire. Which is funny in itself like are you telling on Baez? Soft. This is what makes sports so great. The passion, the fire, the intensity, and the feeling you get watching that show down. Imagine if Baez had hit a Grand Slam? Holy cow. What a scene that would've been. The best part is that this was the first game out of a 4 game series...... best believe their are more fireworks at the ready.
