Tiger Woods and Golf

Last week Netflix released their series "Full Swing", which was watched and completed by myself in 3 days. Although I am not a binge watcher by any means, I was enamored by the authenticity of this series. The platform was similar to Netflix's F1 series "Drive to Survive", but let me tell you "Full Swing" is exceptional. But let me get back to what I really want to talk about, Tiger Woods and his impact on the game of golf. This weekend was the Genesis tournament, which started on Thursday and ran through Sunday with Tiger Woods as the host of the event. I am a pretty big golf fan, maybe not as much as Doc Downing but I am pretty close. This weekend there was so much coverage of the tournament and the reason for that is because of Tiger. Tiger was able to get through the weekend, and I was watching every single day. On Friday he birdied the last three holes of the tournament on a bum leg, bad back, and nonetheless at 47 years young. That's what I want to talk about, is that the game of golf will always be different with Tiger in the field.
Tiger Woods has been apart of golf since 1996, and I have been watching golf since I was in eighth grade. As long as I have been a fan of golf, I have been a fan of Tiger Woods and that is because he has been the consistent leader. He respected the history of golf, which if you know me I love the history of sports. He wanted to push the game of golf to where it has never been and he did that every time he played. He has the respect of older and younger players, which shows the amount of influence he has on the game. Watching golf at a young age, I always wanted to watch Tiger and play like him and look like him. I wore Nike, I had Nike clubs, and I wore red on Sundays when I played. But let me get back to what I really want to talk about, this past weekend.
The Genesis tournament is not one of the larger tournaments, but this weekend felt like it was a huge tournament. The reason for that is the way that Tiger was playing, he was showing glimpse of old Tiger and fans were loving it. Tiger was playing exceptional this weekend; especially when he out drove Justin Thomas on hole 9. Following Justin's drive, Tiger handed JT a tampon which was not received very well from many fans. But let's avoid the joke that he apologized about, we saw Tiger playing well which as golf fans we have missed. During the whole tournament, his galleries were the largest and fans were following him like the old days. I will always say this, golf will always be different with Tiger Woods.

I know that Tiger's time in golf is going to come to an end, which will most likely be the end of this season. Golf will never be the same when he leaves, the galleries will not be the same, records will not be the same, and I will look at golf differently. Tiger has impacted my view of golf, I look at players and compare them to Tiger and none compete. Tiger and his dominance will never be overlooked, and that is what I will miss. I know people hated seeing Tom Brady winning all those Superbowls, but for Tiger I wanted him to win all those tournaments. Rory Mcllroy said this "if I can leave golf, better than I found it; I will be happy". That is how I view all athletes, did their immediate impact affect the game directly? Tiger Woods has done that and more, he will always be my favorite golfer. Tiger Woods has impacted the game in such a way that when he leaves it will never be the same. We as fans will always compare players to Tiger and it will never be the same. I will be watching all golf tournaments this year with Tiger in them, and I am excited to see how he can finish it all out.
