The Successful Tank: Bears Hold the #1 Pick

Sometimes being completely inept pays off. You all hear me talk about the Bears issues, discrepancies, and problems, on a regular basis and finally there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I attended the MNF game this year in New England where the Bears pulled off a huge upset. Little did I know that was going to be their LAST win of the year. 10 losses in a row, a franchise record for a franchise that started when dudes weren't even wearing helmets. Brutal. It got to a point where I would walk to the couch before the game had begun and accepted that we weren't going to win the game. That's a pretty awful place to be as a football fan who wants nothing more than his team to be successful. And on top of that, the Texans had all the power to hold the #1 pick going into week 18 and it was but a forgone conclusion that was going to be the situation.

Thank god for Lovie Smith not giving a shit of what the Texans ownership and front office wanted and going for 2 to win the game in Indianapolis and pulling it off. Naturally, the Bears did their part and got ripped to shreds by the 2nd string Vikings and it happened.

THE BEARS HOLD THE #1 PICK IN THE 2023 NFL DRAFT. HOPE! Hope is restored in the great city of Chicago. And why is that? Hey dude you were the worst team in football, yeah I understand but here's what happens now.....

The Bears hold the #1 pick WITH an up and coming Quarterback already on the roster in Justin Fields. Everything's different now. With Bryce Young and CJ Stroud poised to be the top 2 QB's selected in the draft, we hold all of the leverage now with the other 31 NFL teams. You want to draft them? You come talk to us and offer a kings ransom for our draft position. This can completely change the dynamic of the Bears roster in 2023 and beyond. There are plenty of bad teams out there who need a quarterback to reset their franchise with the Texans ironically being one of them so we can pull off a haul of draft picks to get playmakers and blocking around Fields to really get this thing going.

On top of that, even if we don't make a trade giving up our #1 pick... we still get to pick the #1 overall player in the draft AT WORST. It's massive. We are guaranteed to at least bring in 1 highly touted college prospect who can come in and make a difference immediately. My gut tells me that the pick will be traded but like I said even if it's not we're in great shape in the rebuild. The Bears also have the most cap room to spend this offseason to bring in veterans who can start right away as well. SO. Through the absolute disaster the 2022 season was, we have hope and a viable path to returning to relevancy.

I'm excited to see what GM Ryan Poles puts together this offseason in free agency and the draft and really we can only get better. Their are a million holes to fill but knowing that we at least have the capabilities to start filling them is a tremendous feeling. We're sitting at the blackjack table on a run of 21 like you've never seen before. The pit boss is coming over and keeping a close watch but there's nothing they can do as we clean up on house money.

Yeah baby. NOW is act 1 of the Ryan Poles experience and there's so many routes we can take to getting the Bears to where they need to be. Rodgers is on the way out and in Poles introductory press conference he said the famous quote of, "We're going to take the North and never give it back". There's a lot to be done before we're in that position but this is THEE best place we could've possibly asked to be in. Time to go to work.
