In the 2nd round of the 2007 NBA Playoffs, the #8 seed "We Believe" Warriors were taking on the Utah Jazz. If you remember correctly, this Warriors team stunned the #1 seed Dallas Mavericks led by a Dirk Nowitski in his prime and thus became the easy underdog to root for. This dunk was unbelievable. Let me throw the video down below for you cats:
Announcer Mike Tirico's excitement on this slam is everything. It's exactly how I felt watching this moment unfold. I wanted to highlight this Baron Davis play because it was a moment for me that turned Baron Davis into one of my favorite basketball players of all-time. I remember coming to school the next day and going over the play with one of my best friends repeatedly. For a guard at his size to go up for the dunk that fearlessly on a big man like Kirilenko and flush it, unbelievable. Then I went down the rabbit hole on YouTube and started going through Davis' UCLA days, highlighted by this sick fake behind the back pass dunk:
So sick. Another amazing part about sports is the little moments that can turn you into a huge fan. I knew who Baron Davis was before the dunk but he didn't stick out to me. I was a Kobe guy and a Shaq guy pretty much. But then the Warriors playoff run happens and this electric mind-blowing dunk goes down and instantly I feel the desire to research more about Baron Davis the player. To this day, he is one of my favorite players and his Warriors jersey is one of the best jersey purchases I've had. And none of that happens in my life without the dunk over Kirilenko. Moments into connections.
