In order to understand what I'm going to be talking about watch the video below of Chandler Parsons telling his Kobe tale on All The Smoke Podcast with Matt Barnes & Stephen Jackson.

First, well done to Chandler Parsons. Sets the stage like a champion and there's nothing worse than a dude who doesn't know how to tell an interesting story. But reflecting on the story haha WOW didn't expect that to be the ending at all. With Kobe being the competitive beast he was and seeing that Chandler Parsons was guarding him all night I would've assumed he would've taken that matchup as complete disrespect and taken it personally (Michael Jordan: The Last Dance voice). When Parsons talks about how Kobe asks him if he's going out after the game, I was ready for Parsons to answer "yeah" and for Kobe to respond something to the effect of "yeah that's why you play like shit". That would've been a cool enough story illuminating how fiercely focused Kobe was about the game of basketball.

But then it turns out that Kobe offered Parsons his LA connections and hooked him up with bottle service at some boujee night club in LA. So now I'm listening and wondering alright well that can't be the whole story because that's not cool enough to share. Sure enough the Rockets had a NIGHT out on the town after losing to my once proud Lakers. Parsons going this is the coolest night ever I can't believe Kobe did all this for me. AND THEN the bill comes around 2am....... holy cow can you imagine the feeling in Parson's stomach when he reads the receipt for 22 grand when he thought the night was comped?? And he wasn't an established NBA player making millions yet?? So now I'm thinking okay that's the story, Kobe is the grizzled vet who swindled Parsons into paying a massive bill after he beat them on the court too...RUTHLESS

False. Kobe paid for everything. That's what makes the story worth sharing. Since Kobe's tragic passing I feel like we've heard a lot of these stories about Kobe the person. How he treated others and the little things he would do for people, in silence. Not looking for the recognition of being a good guy but just being generous. For Chandler Parsons it had to be the coolest experience of his life. In the beginning of the story, you can hear how he was talking about getting his mind right just to face Kobe on the court and then for Kobe to turn around and give him an awesome night out all expenses paid.... It's cool to hear.

R.I.P. Kobe
