I love everything about this. One and the obvious, Luka Doncic is a generational franchise player. The dude is 22 years old and a walking triple-double. He has the star power and out of this world athleticism to nearly get Slovenia to the Gold Medal game in the Olympics. We're talking Slovenia here. No disrespect but I didn't even know they had a national team until Doncic came on the scene. And that's what makes Luka such a special player, he doesn't just score he makes everyone around him better.

AND that's why Cuban and the boys are heading out to Slovenia to offer this extension in  person. What a freaking move out of Cubes. The guy is just top class. I remember back in the early 2000's or something he was considering buying my Chicago Cubs and all of these stories came out of how well he treats his staff and team. Renovated locker rooms, private jets, personal chefs, paid vacations, you name it. If you're a team that isn't a globally known franchise like the Knicks, Celtics, Lakers, Warriors, etc, this is how you build a brand. More importantly, this is how you build rapport for free agents to come in the years following. Cubes said we're not only going to offer Luka the most money we can but we're going to fly out to Slovenia, hang out with his family, shake hands, and let him know that he means the absolute world to us, the city, and the organization.

Other teams and owners in every sport need to take note of this move. THIS is how you treat your star player. Don't make it all about x's and o's man. Athletes are normal people as well and just like anybody... they want to feel like they are genuinely cared about as a person just as much as they are revered as an athlete. Flying to Slovenia wasn't just a 5 year move on this contract run, it was for when Doncic's contract is coming to a close in 7-8 years and Doncic will remember the effort the Mavs organization put into this moment right now to extend him. Why would he ever want to walk away from a work culture like that? That's the seed they're planting and well done to all of them.

It's just a shame that they have to lose in the 2nd round to the Lakers 3-headed monster. Man, it is really just a damn shame!
