Carson Wentz's Foot is Toast

Before any snap is taken in the 2021 NFL season, newly acquired Colts QB Carson Wentz is in the news for a disappointing reason. He will need foot surgery due to a floating bone in his foot and could be sidelined up to 12 weeks. That's a tough blow for Wentz #1 as he had an opportunity to prove the doubters wrong after an awful end to his tenure with the Eagles. And #2 the Colts are in full scramble mode at the start of training camp to find a worthy replacement that will keep them competitive.

Colts' QB Carson Wentz is out indefinitely as he undergoes further testing on a foot injury that he suffered at the end of Thursday's practice, per ⁦‪@MikeWellsNFL‬⁩ and me.

Colts' second-year QB Jacob Eason took the starter reps at today's practice, with Sam Ellinger as his backup.

But then again this is kind of what you sign up for when you trade for Carson Wentz. He has been injury ridden his entire career. Even his best year as an Eagle, he ended up tearing his ACL and then Nick Foles stepped in to lead Philadelphia to their first championship. It's also insane how incredible the drop off is in the NFL from starting QB to backup. In the Colts case, they're looking at 2 really young players in Jacob Eason and Sam Ellinger who do not have any starting experience in the NFL. When your main guy goes out, it's really tough to field a competitive offense.

Thus, another reason that when this trade went down I was elated that the Bears didn't go the Wentz route. You just can't trust the guy to suit up for an entire season and be the difference maker your team needs. If he's out for the full 12 weeks then we can start to assume this season for the colts is going to be just brutal. Any chance Philip Rivers comes back to save the day? They were a playoff team last year with Rivers under center so if I'm the head coach/owner I'm calling Rivers every day until he concedes. If not, I assume there is going to be a lot of pissed of indianapolis-ians roaming the streets.
